MYAF Creative Writing Submissions
Students in grades 9-12 can submit original creative writing in one of the following categories:
- Short Story (500-3,000 words; limit 1 piece per student)
- Poetry (2-5 Poems)
- Playwriting (one-act play or one act of a full play to be submitted; limit 1 piece per student)
- Graphic Narration (12-36 panels)
- Creative Non-Fiction (500-3,000 words)
If selected, students will have their work published in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Creative Writing Book, will be asked to participate in the virtual Creative Writing Workshop 2021, and selected students will be asked to read their submissions at the Welcoming Ceremony and Creative Writing Showcase.
Submissions are due March 10, 2021. Submissions must be from an MCTE member teacher. Teachers will be notified of selected students by early April.
Shawntai Brown, Detroit poet and playwright, will be the 2021 Creative Writing Workshop clinician and will work with all selected students on their writing during the virtual workshop.
