MCTE Book Group (June)

June 26 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

MCTE Seasonal Book Group

Read with us starting this summer and throughout the year!

In partnership with the Northern Shores Storywork Writing Project, MCTE invites teachers of English to a seasonal book group. The group will read four books over the next year aligned to the seasons. In June, as we think about growth, we will read Everything You Wanted to Know About Indians But Were Afraid to Ask by the acclaimed Ojibwe author and professor Anton Treuer.

In the fall, we will read Cornelius Minor’s We Got This: Equity, Access, and the Quest to Be Who Our Students Need Us to Be. Minor will be the keynote at MCTE’s Fall Conference on Friday, October 11, so we will have the chance to apply what we learn.

During the winter months, we will read Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange, an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.

And in the spring, we will read Becoming Kin: An Indigenous Call to Unforgetting the Past and Reimagining Our Future by Patty Krawec.

Participants will need to locate a copy of each book on their own and will meet via Zoom on the last Wednesday of each month beginning with June 26 from 4:00 – 5:00 PM EST. MCTE membership is not required.
